Hip prosthesis

S.A.M.O. has always been an innovative company. Articular couplings, osteo conductive coatings, crosslinked and vitamin-E polyethylene, modular necks with use of CoCrMo, are only a few examples where S.A.M.O. contributes to the scientific progress.
S.A.M.O. today can offer a wide range of solutions for hip arthroplasty, meeting the different needs of surgeons all over the world.

Stems

The Multifit Stem System , proven for its basic functionalities such as bone fixation, with its hundreds of implants around the world has guaranteed patient satisfaction for over 30 years. The device presents itself as a true innovation for the surgical practice for hip arthroplasty, allowing a more precise treatment for different pathologies, redefining the role of the modularity of the neck as a particular treatment that the surgeon, during the operation, can decide to adopt in special cases.
  • Multifit modular stems:
The Multifit system has been designed for maximum ease of use and superior flexibility at the same time, if compared with the currently most popular systems. In particular, the neck-stem connection system with circular cone-morse greatly improves the simplicity of the system, reducing the number of necks to 3 (6 including straight necks), and simplifying the procedures to find the right centre of rotation for the particular. anatomical situation. By exploiting the characteristics of the SAMO Integrated System, it is possible to choose whether to use a modular solution at the end of the surgery, after the trial reductions, when the surgeon has all the necessary information on the biomechanical stability of the joint available.

  • Duofit uncemented stems:
Duofit uncemented stems are being implanted since 1994, with 18 years of follow-up and very good results, witnessed by a great number of clinical reports. The stem is straight, with a 135° cervico-diaphyseal angle. The geometry of the stem is based on the principle of metaphisial filling, that, along with the single or double coating of pure titanium and HA plasma spray, grants the best stability of the device. The stem is gradually tapered from proximally to distally. The final 3D shape is a taper in all sections, offering the maximum resistance against instability.
  • Duofit cemented stems:
The cemented models CKA and CFS have basically the same shape as the press-fit stems, with the taper as base concept for an optimal distribution of forces and the best stability of the stem. The two models are characterized by different surface treatments: mirror polished (CKA) and mat finished (CFS), and a slightly different default cement thickness, 1mm lower for the CKA compared to CFS. The CFS stem also features deep grooves offering additional stability, while the CKA stem has a smooth and flat surface to minimize the debris production.

The success of the Multifit geometry, its modularity and patient satisfaction for over 30 years, were
the starting point for the design of the Minifit stem. The device allows a real minimally invasive surgery, suitable for young and active patients.
The peculiar concept of circular connection of modular neck allows to have 8 different version/CCD
angles for each neck, reducing the number of necks to 6 and increasing the number of possible positions.

The LC stem for cemented implants is characterized by a rectangular cross-section with blunted and rounded off edges and a self-centering design.
The LC cemented stem, in junction with the PSF Duofit uncemented cup, proved to be the most reliable prosthetic combination in the market, as it is shown by the data from the Italian RIPO registry (Register of Orthopaedic Prosthetic
Implants), that presents the most significant results of the descriptive and survival statistical analyses performed on hip, knee and shoulder
arthroplasty surgeries carried out in the Emilia-Romagna region.

Fluted tapered revision femoral stems have been used successfully around the world. The
modularity makes these implants more versatile. This is a stem for revision, based on the Wagner concept
of distal fixation, that provides a strong and reliable connection of the implant with the distal part, where
the bone is healthy.
Simple and precise instruments allow the perfect implantation of the prosthesis.

Cups

The Duofit cup is an acetabular shell for uncemented implants made by Titanium Aluminium
Vanadium Alloy (Ti-6Al4V). Its design is low profile elliptic shaped with three holes provided with
removable and closing Titanium plugs for optional application of supplementary screws. The surface is coated by a double layer of high porous TiCoat 600 HA and Hydroxyapatite, obtained through Vacuum
Plasma Spray technique, that promoting osteo-integration of the implant in the secondary fixation stage.

The SparkUp cup, with its design optimized for use with large diameter heads (40 mm), combines
the reliability of the geometry and design of the Duofit cup with the possibility of having a wide choice
of liners.

The Integrate System provides a great set of cups and liners, three different concepts of bone
fixation, 5 different liners and the option for double mobility. The design of cups and liners have been
optimized to allow the use of heads up to 40mm, thanks to the new generation tribology, like Delta
Ceramics and cross-linked polyethylene stabilised with Vitamin E.
The liner-cup connection provides of 3 different locking mechanisms for stabilization against fatigue
failures, rotation and pull-out.

HEMIARTHROPLASTY

The “Ellittica” head is characterized by an elliptical shape to ensure maximum head-to-acetabulum fit, optimal cartilage nutrition, continuous articular lubrication and optimal stress distribution with minimum acetabular wear and protrusion in Hemi arthroplasty procedures.
A vacuum effect is obtained which helps eliminate the dislocation problem. By using the “Ellittica” head, the cartilage can be preserved significantly in comparison to Bipolar Heads.
Thanks to this, in more than 30 years, Ellittica has proven to be up to 4 times more reliable than both classic bipolar and monopolar femoral heads.

Bipolar head SBA is used for acetabular partial arthroplasties and can be couple to articular heads with diameter of 28 mm.
